Privacy Policy

Last updated September 24, 2026

This policy explains what information The Sound Wall Music Initiative (“we”, “us”) collects when you visit The Sound Wall website, how we use it, and the outside services involved. The site does not have user accounts, and we do not sell your personal information.

01What we collect

Email address, if you join our newsletter. The signup form asks only for your email address. We use it to add you to our mailing list.

Usage information, automatically. When you browse the site, our analytics tool records things like the pages you view, links and buttons you click (including which ticket links you follow), the referring page, and technical details such as browser, device type and approximate location derived from your IP address.

Emails you send us. If you write to info@theswmi.org, we receive whatever you include in your message.

We do not collect payment information on this site. Ticket purchases, memberships and reservations happen on third-party sites (see below).

02Analytics and cookies

We use PostHog, hosted in the United States, to understand how visitors use the site. PostHog stores a randomly generated identifier in a first-party cookie and in your browser’s local storage so that visits can be counted and grouped. We do not link this identifier to your name or email address.

The site itself does not set any other cookies. Some pages embed YouTube videos; YouTube may set its own cookies when those videos load or play, under Google’s privacy policy.

You can block or delete cookies and local storage in your browser settings, or use a content blocker to stop analytics scripts. The site will continue to work.

03Third-party services

These services process information on our behalf or when you choose to use them:

  • Mailchimp stores newsletter subscribers’ email addresses and sends our emails. We tag each address to record that it was added through this site. The list is shared with the Opelika Songwriters Festival, another Sound Wall Music Initiative program, so you may also receive festival emails. Every email includes an unsubscribe link.
  • PostHog provides the website analytics described above.
  • Vercel hosts the site and, like any web host, processes standard request data such as IP addresses to deliver pages.
  • YouTube serves embedded videos on some event pages.

We also link to sites we don’t operate, including TicketSpice for tickets and memberships, Airbnb for The Loft, the Opelika Songwriters Festival and Sound Wall Music Initiative websites, and our Instagram and Facebook pages. Anything you provide on those sites — including payment details — is governed by their own privacy policies, not this one.

04How we use information

We use the information described above to:

  • send newsletters and announcements about shows, programs (including the Opelika Songwriters Festival) and the Sound Wall Music Initiative;
  • understand which pages and events people are interested in so we can improve the site and our programming;
  • reply to messages you send us; and
  • keep the site secure and working.

We don’t sell or rent personal information, and we share it only with the service providers listed above or when required by law.

05Children

This site is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us their email address, contact us at info@theswmi.org and we will delete it.

06Changes and contact

We may update this policy as the site changes. When we do, we’ll revise the “last updated” date above. You can unsubscribe from our newsletter at any time using the link in any email. For questions or requests about your information, email info@theswmi.org.
